THERMOWOOD: PROCESSING, SPECIAL FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, AND DISADVANTAGES

ThermoWood is such a wood that is processed by high temperature (up to 240 ֯ C) and at a certain pressure. As a result, it acquires the unique characteristics. It becomes 40–60% less wet comparing to a common wood, and significantly loses its weight. Modern processing technologies make it possible to achieve such a structure of a material that would require more than one hundred years in the wild.

Results derived from heat treatment
When preparing the material, the following changes occur during the process:

Resin completely evaporates or dries out. This means that during the operation process, wood will no longer emit it.
The material becomes more solid; it is less able to absorb moisture from the environment. In addition, the surface is resistant to direct contact with water, regular exposure to hot steam.
Wood is less subject to the harmful effects of negative factors. It can not be destroyed by blows, bacteria, fungus, insects, and fluctuations of temperature. Due to moisture resistance, thermowood is not prone to deformation. If a common wood can swell with time, then after heat treatment such problems would not exist.
Exterior becomes more expensive, solid; the surface is getting darker.

Such a wood does not need any chemical protection – according to its characteristics, it has been done enough to withstand all the negative aspects. At the same time, the service life of the finished products under certain conditions can be increased in 15-25 times comparing with common wood.

Since the material is natural and safe, and during processing the effect is conducted by temperature (not chemicals), wood remains environmentally friendly. It also preserves the pleasant smell of natural wood, which is important for the decoration of different rooms.

Where heat-treated wood is used
