Espe ist allgemein für die Dekoration der Sauna dank seiner geringen Dichte, dem Fehlen von Harz und kleiner Menge von Knoten verwendet. Nützliche Eigenschaften von Espe hängen von hohem Tanninegehalt ab, die nicht nur die Fähigkeit des Holzes zum Verderben unter erhöhte Feuchtigkeit erheblich verringert, sonder auch einen unglaublichen besonderen Duft gibt. Holzbelag aus Espe bekommt fast keine Risse, ist leicht zu bearbeiten und passt gut für erhöhte Feuchtigkeitsbedingungen.
