Harvia M3 SL Sauna Stove Set with WHP1500 Chimney and 40 kg of Sauna Stones
Recommended Accessories
Why these accessories make sense
For a wood-fired sauna stove, accessories are not just an optional extra, but an essential part of the entire system. That is exactly why this set is assembled in such a practical way. The Harvia M3 SL provides the heat, the WHP1500 ensures safe exhaust gas routing, and the matching sauna stones perform a key function for the final sauna climate. Only the interaction of these components ensures that the stove can not only be installed, but also operates the way it is intended to in practice: reliably, safely and with pleasant heat output.
The WHP1500 is not just a simple pipe, but a complete modular chimney with a sensible basic configuration. The standard scope of delivery includes, among other things, a rain cap, rain collar with installation set, penetration insulation and protection, the 1.5 m stainless steel chimney module, a 1.0 m stove pipe, a penetration collar and a clamp band. This makes installation far more systematic, cleaner and easier to plan. This is particularly important with wood-fired sauna stoves because the chimney routing directly affects draft, combustion, operational safety and durability.
The stones are equally important. The two packs of Harvia sauna stones, 20 kg each, are not merely decorative, but play a major role in how the stove stores heat and how the sauna water infusion feels. Suitable stones stabilize heat output, improve the evaporation of the infusion water and help the sauna operate more evenly and pleasantly. At the same time, they support the intended air circulation in the stone compartment. Using unsuitable or incorrectly sized stones not only worsens the sauna experience, but also risks putting unnecessary strain on the stove.
In short: these accessories are not a random upsell, but the logical addition to the stove. They support professional installation, help maintain safety clearances, protect the surrounding structure, stabilize operation and preserve the long-term functionality of the entire system.
Important notes on installation and use
Before installation, the output should always match the actual sauna design. The Harvia M3 SL is intended for 6 to 13 m³. It is important to note that uninsulated wall and ceiling surfaces such as brick, glass, tiles or concrete increase the required stove output. For each square meter of such surfaces, approximately 1.2 m³ must be added in the calculation. In the case of solid wood or log walls, the sauna volume must be multiplied by a factor of 1.5. This assessment is crucial because a stove that is too small would have to be operated too intensively on a permanent basis, which can shorten its service life and negatively affect operational safety.
Before first regular use, Harvia recommends an initial firing outdoors. The reason is the stove’s protective coating, which can evaporate during the first heating and produce smoke and odor. Only after this initial burn-off should the stove be used at its final installation location. The stones must not yet be placed in the stove during the first burn-off; they are inserted only afterward, once the stove has completely cooled down. Stones measuring 10 to 15 cm are intended for loading. Suitable rock types are peridotite, olivine dolerite and olivine. Before loading, the stones must be dusted off, larger stones should be placed at the bottom, smaller ones on top, and air must be able to circulate freely between the stones.
Only dry wood should be used for firing. For lighting the fire, logs with a diameter of about 8 to 12 cm are suitable; later, when refueling, 12 to 15 cm is more appropriate. The maximum log length is 35 cm. Wood must not be burned in the firebox extension, but belongs on the grate in the rear section of the firebox. Unsuitable materials include painted or impregnated wood, chipboard, plastic, coal, briquettes, pellets, waste or garden debris. Excessive or permanently exaggerated heating should be avoided, otherwise the stove and chimney may overheat.
For installation through a wall opening, the following applies: on SL models, the firebox extension is guided through the opening and the door is then reinstalled. If the stove is connected to a Harvia steel chimney, the non-combustible wall through which the stove passes must extend to the outer roof. A minimum distance of 100 mm must be maintained between combustible components and the outer jacket of the chimney. With the WHP1500, the safety distance increases to 500 mm if there is an uninsulated connecting pipe in the front section. In addition, at least 430 mm of the insulated chimney must remain visible inside the room. The chimney may only be installed vertically, must not be clad or enclosed, and the maximum total length is 5 meters, with the free-standing section allowed to extend no more than 2 meters above the last support.
The penetrations through the ceiling and roof must also be carried out carefully. The gap between the chimney and structural components must be filled with ZSH-200 penetration insulation or a comparable Class A insulating material with continuous temperature resistance of at least 750 °C. For a silicone vapor barrier collar, a permanent temperature resistance of at least 160 °C is required. It is also important that the 100 mm protective clearance is fully maintained in ceiling and roof penetrations as well and that no loose insulation material can enter this area. Harvia recommends the matching penetration protection for this purpose.
Regular maintenance is essential for ongoing operation. The ash box should be emptied before every heating cycle because combustion air is guided through this area. The stove’s smoke channels, as well as the chimney and connecting pipes, must be cleaned regularly. The sauna stones should be restacked at least once a year, and more often with frequent use, while damaged stones should be replaced. Only clean water may be used for sauna infusions. Water with a high salt, iron, lime or humus content can attack metal surfaces prematurely and shorten the stove’s service life.
Why buy from us?
We are a partner of this brand and know not only the individual stove, but also the associated system consisting of chimney, connection components, sauna stones and installation situation. That is exactly what matters with a wood-fired sauna stove. Those who look only at the stove often overlook how closely draft behavior, safety clearances, penetrations, stone loading and user comfort are connected. We help bring all of these points together correctly from the very beginning.
That is why with us you do not simply get just any sauna stove, but a logically structured solution. We understand why a model like the Harvia M3 SL is particularly sensible when heating is to be handled from outside, and what must be considered when combining it with the WHP1500. This helps you avoid mistakes in planning, accessory selection and installation. That not only saves time and effort, but also ensures that the finished sauna really works the way it should later on.
Our product range is coordinated. For you, this means less uncertainty, more technical clarity and a much better basis for a clean, safe and durable installation. Especially with Harvia, you benefit from the combination of brand quality, system understanding and practical product experience. If you are looking for a coherent solution instead of individual loosely assembled components, you are in the right place with us.
Warranty & Conditions
The documents available for this set do not state a separate, differing warranty period for private or commercial use. This makes proper installation and use according to the manufacturer’s specifications all the more important. This includes, in particular, the correct calculation of sauna volume, the use of suitable sauna stones, proper chimney routing, compliance with all safety clearances and the regular cleaning of the stove, smoke channels and chimney.
Harvia also points out that only approved spare parts and recommended components may be used and that unauthorized modifications to the unit are not permitted. For proper documentation, the stove’s serial number should be taken from the packaging and stored permanently together with the manual. Especially with wood-fired sauna stoves, traceable and professionally executed installation is the basis for safe operation and trouble-free use over a long period of time.
If you want maximum operational safety and long-term functionality, all installation, operating and maintenance instructions should be followed consistently. This applies in particular to initial commissioning, fuel selection, stone loading, chimney cleaning and the structural execution of all penetrations. In this way, you create the best possible basis for the long-term reliable use of your Harvia set.
